It’s a hat trick that nobody wants – three consecutive race nights lost to rain at New Smyrna Speedway.

So, once again, the track will try to keep Mother Nature at bay this week and present week number 22 of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Racing Series. This week is also Andrew Hart’s annual “Back Pack Night” All fans who bring a new back pack to be donated to area school kids will receive $5 off adult general admission.

There will also be a bounce house set up behind the turn one grandstand for the kids courtesy of Central Florida Raceway Ministries.

Racing will feature the Super Late Models, Sportsman, Modifieds and the Bombers. The American Auto, Tires & Service bounty on Patrick Thomas in the Sportsman class remains at $400. Anyone who can beat Thomas and win the Sportsman race this Saturday night will get a bonus of $400 cash providing Thomas is still running at the end of the event.

Pit gates open Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm with open practice from 5-6:30 pm. Grandstand gates open a 6 pm with all fans invited to come out early for the weekly pre-race party featuring live music at the Throttle to Bottle Pub courtesy of Pub 44 in New Smyrna along with $1 beers and half-off bar food menu.

Racing begins at 7:30 pm with heat races for the Modifieds, Sportsman and Bombers. Following intermission the Modifieds are up first for their 25-lap feature followed by a 35-lap contest for the Super Late Models. The Sportsman then go for 25 circuits with the Bombers wrapping up the evening with a 20-lap run.

Adult admission is $15 with all seniors (65+) and military with valid ID get in for $13. However, all fans bringing a new back pack as a donation to local area school children will get $5 off their admission ticket. As always, all kids aged 11 and under are free.

Other Notes:

Due to overwhelming requests, the track has added an open practice this Thursday night, August 6th. The pit gate opens at 5 pm with practice from 6-10 pm. Admission is $10 per person.

The Pro Late Model 50 lap race that was scheduled for August 1st has been rescheduled to October 17th.

Sparky (Spark Plug) has been chosen as the name of New Smyrna Speedway’s new shark mascot. Thank to all the fans for all the great responses.
