Fireworks Fly at Northwest Florida Speedway

(Blackman, FL – July 2, 2010) — A full card of racing action awaited the fans at Northwest Florida Speedway Friday night as thunder rumbled in Northern Okaloosa county for the third time this season. A fireworks show highlighted the Fourth of July weekend program as well.
Street Stocks started off the nights feature races with Mike Lane on the pole and Bo Bailey outside at second. With the green flag in the air it was Slay with the lead and Lane at second. Caution flew on lap one when Wayne Hawthorne took a spin in turn two. Slay led the way back to green, holding the lead as Lane picks up in second and Bailey third. Jim Jarvis runs at fourth with Chandler Burgess fifth. Burgess battles Jarvis for fourth, claiming the position as Dakota Gregory follows suit into fifth.

Caution flew at lap eight when Gregory went around in two while digging hard for Burgess for fourth. Slay continues to lead Lane with Bailey still holding onto third. Back under green Slay retained the lead as Branden Harris looks for third on Burgess.
Caution waved shortly after the restart when Lane went around from second, stacking up Burgess and Jarvis. Slay led back to the yellow followed by Bailey. Branden Harris moved up into third with Denny Albee fourth and Jeffery Odom fifth. Back under green Slay continued to set the pace as Harris looks for a way past Bailey for second. Bailey holds his ground but Harris continues keeping the pressure up falling inches short of second as caution flew when Albee lost a wheel in turn one.
Slay leads to the caution with Bailey second and Harris at third. Gregory holds fourth with Odom fifth. Under green again it was Harris on the outside of Bailey to take over second with two to go. Slay finished his dominant run at the checkers for the win, with Harris just not having enough laps to close the gap as he crossed second. Bailey claimed third.
Tim McCurdy led the Hobby field to green with Lucas Mosley outside. Under green It was McCudy out front. Caution flew on lap one when Vic Dolahite, Ira Roberts and Mosley went around in two. McCurdy remains the leader with Lucas Morris second and JR Parker now holds third. McCurdy retains the lead back under green with Morris at second. McCurdy took the win over Morris with Parker third.
John Melton brought the Open-Wheel Modifieds to green with Cole Griffith on his outside. Melton took out in the lead until Ryan Fowler ran to the point out of two and began checking out. Melton holds onto second while Justin Galbreath moves to third. Fowler took the victory over Melton with Galbreath finishing third.
Shep Lucas brought the Late Model field to green with Larry Boutwell on his outside. With the drop of the green flag it was Lucas and Boutwell side-by-side for the elad with Lucas emerging at the point from turn two. Boutwell slipped to third as Joseph Joiner challenged to claim the second spot.
Caution flew when Seth Gransbury went around in turn four. Lucas leds Joiner at the restart with Boutwell third. Martin Lilland Jr. loses fourth to Frank Wilson at lap ten as Lucas continues to set the pace out front. Caution flew again when Gransbury went around in turn two. Gransbury received the black flag for two unassisted spins. Restarting with five laps to go Lucas again brings the field to green, holding the point to the checkers with Joiner second and Boutwell taking third.
Dakota Boughton led the Bomber field to green with Steven Fretwell outside. With green flying it was Boughton holding the lead as George Parker pulled to second and Matt Chavers third. Lap two saw Boughton fade as Parker took the lead with Chavers second and Fretwell at third.
Chavers closes to Parkers bumper, hunting the lead while Jacob Boughton moves into fourth, looking for third on Fretwell. Caution flew on lap six when Brian Haveard came to a stop on the infield off the back straight. Parker leads to the yellow followed by Chavers at second and Fretwell third. Back to green flag racing it was Parker out front as Fretwell moved to second over Chavers. Chavers got low into the infield in three and four, passing third to J. Boughton.
Fretwell cuts down a tire battling for the lead. J. Boughton runs second with chavers dueling for the position. Chavers clears J. Boughton to second as he closes on Parker whose car seems to not be handling well. Caution flew when D. Boughton went around on the back straight. Chavers edged out Parker to the yellow. Chavers holds the point under green once more while J. Boughton moves to challenge Parker for second with two to go. Chavers remains solid out front to the checkered flag with Parker second and J. Boughton third.
Wally Davis Jr led the NwFL Modified Compact Trucks to green with Trey Davies outside at second. Bryan Hardy took the green in third with Dwayne Hardy fourth. Logan Nathey suffered mechanical problems in the heat and did not start the feature. With green in the air it was Davies outside into the lead with Davis Jr second and B. Hardy third. Davis fades while B. Hardy moves into second at lap eight. Out front it’s all Davies. Davies runs to a straightaway lead victory over B. Hardy. Davis Jr crossed in third with D. Hardy fourth.
Colton Leyendecker brought the Stinger field to green with Robert Garrett outside. Under green it was Garrett taking over the lead with Leyendecker falling into second and Harry Beatty third. Beatty moves insode Leyendercker to take over second at lap eight. Garrett took the win followed by Beatty with Joshua Pickron making a pass into third.
The next race on Northwest Florida Speedway’s limited 2010 schedule will be on August 6th with a full program of dirt track action!
