Joseph Joiner tops Late Models at Northwest Florida Speedway
The second race night for Northwest Florida Speedway was a success with good grandstand attendance and plenty of cars in the pits. A brief sprinkle of rain had tensions up for a momnet, but despite the ominous looking blobs on the radar the rain luckily never materialized and race continued to conclusion as scheduled.
Brandon Harris led the Street Stock field to their feature green. Bo Slay took up the outside front row with Chandler Burgess third, Josh Livingston fourth and Dakota Gregory fifth. With the drop of the green it was Harris to the lead. Bradey Reeves went around on the front straight and caution flew before the completion of the first lap. Disaster was avoided as Reeves went around in mid pack without being hit. Harris again brought the field to green ,locking in battle with Slay for the point. At the line it was Harris at the lead with Slay on his tail. In turn three Harris turns it around from the lead as Slay takes the lead and caution flies on lap two. David Windham runs second with Burgess third. Slay retains the lead, opening a lead over Windham as second. Caution flew on lap four when Tyler Blakely spun in turn two. Slay still leads Windham with Burgess third, Livingston fourth and Bo Bailey fifth. Slay leads back to green once more, keeping the point with Windham in tow. Caution flew when Jeffery Odom went around in three at lap six. One more time Slaw led Windham back to green. One more time Slay held the lead. Caution again flew on lap nine when Livingston spun in turn four. The restart was waved off after Blakely jumped and the field lined up once more. Slay remains out front, Windham second, Burgess third, Bailey fourth and John Wood into the front five. Back under green Odom pulls into fifth over Wood as the race hits halfway. Mitch Smith got into Reeves at lap eleven, bringing out the caution with Smith also taking the black flag. Under green again it was still all Slay but caution flew quickly for Blakely in turn two and the pace slowed up once more. Blakely took the black flag for too many cautions. Slay again led the field back to green at lap eleven, still holding onto the point while Burgess closes on Windham for second. Slay dominated to the checkered flag with Windham taking second with Burgess third.

David Windham brought the Hobby field to green with Lucas Morris outside. Howie Reeves started third with Dean Shaw fourth. Jay Jones rolled to green in the fifth position. With green flying it was Windham pulls to the lead as Morris digs back at second. Shaw takes up the hunt in third. Morris and Windham run door to door with Morris taking the lead as caution flies when Tim Flower and Randy Morris go around in turn three. L Morris maintains the lead with Windham hunting at second. Shaw runs at third with Reeves fourth and Kevin Jernigan fifth. Lucas leads to the finish with Windham taking second and Shaw third.

Greg Hopkins brought the Open-Wheel Modifieds to the green with John Melton outside. Justin Galbreath starts third with Jason Douglas fourth and Leb Morris. Hopkins took out in the lead with Melton on his tail. Galbreath runs third with Morris to fourth and Douglas fifth. At lap three the leads run wheel to wheel with Melton taking the lead to the flagstand at lap seven. Hopkins runs at second now with Galbreath third. By lap nine Melton has opened a straight lead over Hopkins. Galbreath battles with Hopkins for second at lap eleven, taking the spot on lap twelve. Caution waved on lap thirteen when Douglas spun in one. Melton leads back to green with Galbreath second. Melton once again opens the gap back to second. Melton picked up the victory with Galbreath second and Hopkins third.

Joseph Joiner brought the Late Models to green with Josh Huss outside and Shep Lucas third. Joiner takes the lead on the start as Lucas pulls inside Huss to move into second. Huss files in at third with Jason Phillips fourth and Martin Lilland fifth. Lilland loses the fifth spot to Russell Welch as Joiner remains solid in the lead. Joiner took the win with Lucas second and Huss third. Phillips crossed fourth with Welch fifth.

Steven Fretwell brought the Bombers to green with Levi Donaldson outside. Fretwell pulled to the lead with Donaldson close in second. Matt Chavers runs third. Caution flew on lap two for debris in four. Fretwell leads Donaldson with Chavers third. Terry Mayhair holds fourth with George Parker fifth. Back under green it was Fretwell out front as Mayhair ran outside looking for fourth. Chavers digs inside Donaldson through one and two to take over second. Parker looks inside Donaldson for third. Chavers looks inside Fretwell but caution for Kyle Kirkland stopped in turn four ends the bid for the lead. Again Fretwell brings the field to green with Chavers at second and Parker third. Donaldson runs fourth with Jacob Boughton fifth. Fretwell retains the lead but caution flies quickly at lap eight when Bobby Smith and Dean Brooks went around in turn two. Under green Parker looks inside Chavers for second without success as he pushes up the track and Dnaldson pulls to third and Mayhair to fourth. Caution waved on lap twelve when Brooks and Jesse Smith go around in turn two. Fretwell brings the field back to green with Chavers back at second and Donaldson third. Fretwell continues to lead as the race resumes green with Chavers second and Donaldson third. Caution flew on lap seventeen for debris when Hunter Baker lost his truck lid in turn four. Fretwell again brought the field back to green, but when Dakota Boughton went around in one caution flew again with two laps remaining. Fretwell led to the short run, holding the lead. Mayhair digs inside Chavers, hunting for second. Fretwell led to the checkers with Mayhair second and Donaldson third as Chavers spins on the back straight.

With each race this new division, the Modified Compact Trucks are gaining momentum. Racing as a regular class at Northwest Floridaa Speedway the trucks operate loosly as a series between different tracks. Racing is becoming better as the drivers work to figure out and fine tune these machines. Robby Walters, the only veteran in the division having raced his truck in 2009) led the Compact Trucks to green with Trey Davies on the outside at second. Logan Nathey starts third with Bryan Hardy fifth and Dwayne Hardy. Walters took the lead with Davies second and Nathey third. Walters spun out of turn two, passing the lead to Davies. Nathey moves up to second with Hardy Third. Jeremy Foster digs outside Hardy, looking for position. Red flew when Dwayne Hardy ran high in one and two, turning over. Hardy was uninjured. Davies brings the field to the lap five restart with B. Hardy second, Nathey third, Jeremy Foster fourth . Davies holds onto the lead as Jeremy Foster works on B Hardy for second, taking the spot on lap six. Caution flew when B. Hardy went around. To the flagstand Jeremy Foster got into Davies, turning him around. Foster was blackflagged for turning Davies, which moved Walters to the point for the lap twelve restart. Nathey runs second and B. Hardy third. Walters pulled out at the point, holding on as Nathey and Hardy battle over second. Walters took the win with Nathey second and B. Hardy third. Davies crossed fourth with James Foster fifth.

Stinger saw Harry Beatty on the pole with Robert Garrett outside at second. Jacob Fenlon third, Jeff Ladue fourth and Casey Spears fifth. Beatty and Garrett battle for the point with Beatty taking it briefly, until Garrett claims the spot on lap two. Colton Leyendecker moves to second over Beatty. Beatty falls off the pace as Jeff Ladue moves up into third with Spears on his bumper. Caution flew on lap eleven when Ladue ran inside Spears, making contact and turning spears in turn two. Ladue took the black flag for turning Spears around. Garrett continues to lead Leyendecker. Garrett remains out front as green flag racing resumes. Leyendecker remains in pursuit and within striking range as the field receives the two to go signal. Garrett brought home the win with Leyendecker second.
