Harris Takes Miller Lite Six Pack Shootout at Southern Raceway

Branden Harris has returned to the Street Stock ranks with his old winning ways, backing up last week’s feature win with a victory in the third of six Miller Lite Six Pack Street Stock Shootout races at Southern Raceway. Chris Bayhi, the Vintage division’s hot shoe extraordinaire, topped the $1000-to-win Vintage division main event.
Jerry Venable brought the $1000 to win Vintage feature to green with Kylan Nathey on his outside. Venable emerged at the point with Randy Morris into second and Chris Bayhi third at the end of lap one. Caution flew on lap two when Brannon Culpepper went around in turn one. Venable brought the field back to green, holding the lead as Bayhi moved to second over Morris. By lap three Bayhi closed to Venable’s bumper before caution flew on lap five when Zach Howard spun in turn two. Again Venable brought the field back to the restart green, again holding the lead. Caution flew on lap six when John Cody spun in turn two. Under green there was no change in the front three until Cody went around in two to bring out caution again on lap eight. Lap nine saw Aaron Buscavage shuffle Morris from third as Venable continued to lead Bayhi. On the restart Morris again claims third as Bayhi hunts the lead from Venable. Caution waved on lap fifteen when Don Hall stopped on the back straight. Venable continues to hold the lead over Bayhi with Morris third. Morris slips to fifth as Buscavage and Howard moved by. Bayhi pulls to the lead over Venable through one and two. Venable lost it in turn two, stacking up the field for caution on lap sixteen. Bayhi leads Howard to the restart with William Nelson third. Back under green it was still Bayhi out front as Nelson moved to second before caution flew on lap seventeen when Jerry Bohlman came to a stop on the back straight. Back under green Bayhi remains out front as Howard pulls to second. With one to go Nelson pulls to second out of four. Bayhi claimed the win over nelson with Howard third.

Ryan Fowler brought the Open-Wheel Modifieds to green with Jim Derfoldi on the outside. Under green it was Fowler out front as Joe Phillips moved to second and Leb Morris third. Lap two saw Phillips take the lead from Fowler. Caution flew on lap two for a spin in turn one. Phillips leads Fowler with Morris at third. Under green again it was Phillips out front until caution flew when Don Livingston dove into one, tagging Joey Bartlett. Bartlett went around in one. Again, Phillips brought the field of modifieds to green, again holding the lead as Folwer pulls out at second and Morris moves to third. Caution flew for Billy Copple going around in one at lap four. Phillips leads back to green with Fowler at second. With Phillips out front Bartlett looks for second over Fowler but can’t make it. Caution flew on lap seven when several cars tangled in turn two. Caution flew on the restart when Derfoldi stopped in two. Philips holds onto the lead with Fowler second and Morris into third. Caution flew for debris for a bumper on the track. Morris took the black flag for mechanical issues as the front bumper belonged to him. Phillips again brought the field to green, still holding the point as Livingston moves to second on lap seven. Fowler runs third. Caution flew on lap nine when Copple went around. Copple was black flagged for three unassisted spins. Phillips continues to lead as Livingston hunts at second and Fowler remains third. Phillips leads to the checkers with Livingston second and Fowler taking third.

JR Parker led the Hobby field to green with Kevin Jernigan outside at second. Red flew when Jay Jones got into the front straight wall, waving off the start. The field lined back up for a complete restart as Parker again brought the field around to the green. The second attempt ended with cars scattered through turn three and four and no start. The third attempt saw a start with Jernigan taking the point and Tim Fowler moving to second. Caution flew on lap two when Shane Haynes went around. Jernigan led to the caution with Fowler third and Martin Tucker at third. Vic Dolahite pulled to third before Travis Bonne spun in two and caution flew on lap three. Caution flew again on lap four when Haynes went around in two and several cars got tangled up in four. Jernigan leads back to green with Parker at second and Dale Bush third. Caution flew on the restart when Fowler went around on the front straight with help from Haynes. Haynes was black flagged for his part in the encounter. Jernigan leads Parker with Darrell Sprague up into third. Jernigan again takes out in the lead as Dolahite moves into second. Caution flew when Sprague climbed the hill to the light pole, visiting the track photographer. The restart ended with two cars going around, one in one and one in two, and caution flying again. Jernigan leads to a green-white-checker run to the finish. A four way run for the lead saw Jernigan turned from the lead by Fowler and caution fly again. The restart saw Dolahite at the point with Parker third and Tucker at third. Dolahite took the win with Shaw moving to second and parker third.

Bo Slay brought the Miller Lite Six Pack Street Stock Shootout race #3 field to green with Braden Harris outside at second. With the green flag flying it was Slay to the lead with Harris second and David Windham moving up into third. Caution flew on lap seven when Matt Jordan came to a stop high in four, and Josh Livingston and John Wood went around in turn one. Slay leads Harris back to green with Windham third, Ricky Haugen fourth and Brandon Kilpatrick fifth. Slay holds the lead as green flies but Windham rockets past Harris to second and inside Slay for the lead out of turn four. Slay runs second with Harris third. Haugen pulls to second as Slay drifts back. Harris runs third. Caution waved on lap fourteen when Wood goes around and Slay slows to a stop. Windham leads back to the green with Haugen at second. Windham remains out front as the laps tick away for the first segment of the twenty-six lap main event. Windham, Haugen, Harris, Kilpatrick, Ryan Fowler and Joe Richbourg made the cut to the final segment taking the front six spots. Harris leads the field with Haugen second, Windham third, Kilpatrick fourth, Richbourg fifth and Fowler sixth. The order was set by a pill draw for inversion. Harris leads the way to the green, taking the lead with Haugen to second while Windham and Kilpatrick duel over third. Windham moves to third. Harris takes the win with Haugen second and Windham third.

Bryan Hardy led the Compact Trucks to green with Robby Walters outside. With the green in the air it was Walters quickly taking to the lead but Hardy charges and claims the point on lap one. Lap two saw Huck Gibson move into second. By lap six Trey Davies moved to third. Hardy opend to a full half track lead over second place and never looked back, claiming the victory over Gibson with Davies taking third.

John Melton led the Late Models to green with Jason Phillips on the outside front row. As the green flag flew it was Phillips taking the point until several cars got together in turn one and caution waved, bringing the field back to a complete restart. Phillips rocketed to the lead by turn two with Melton at second and Joseph Joiner third. Joiner moved to challenge for second at lap three, taking the spot before spinning in turn two and handing the position back to Melton. Todd Jones runs at third. Lap nine saw Joiner move back to third, taking the position from Jones. Out front it’s still Phillips leading Melton. Caution flew on lap fifteen when Steven Jernigan went around in turn two. Phillips remains at the point with Melton second and Joiner third. Caution killed the restart when Randy Polk went around in one. Again Phillips brought the field back to green, Joiner pulled to second over Melton and moved to challenge Phillips. Phillips claimed the win over Joiner with Melton third.

JR Benton led the Bomber field to green with Terry Mayhair outside. Under green it was Benton taking out at the point over Mayhair. Mayhair claimed the lead on lap two, shuffling Benton to second while Billy Fletcher holds third. Caution flew on lap four for debris on the front straight. Fletcher holds the lead at the caution with Greg Burton second and Robbie Brown third. Brown pulls to the point on the restart. Caution flew on lap eight for debris again. Brown brought the field back to green with Fletcher second and William Arnett at third. Caution flew again on lap nine when Fletcher turned Al Hardy around on the back straight. Fletcher was blackflagged for rough driving. With eight laps to go it was Arnett at the point with Levi Donaldson second. Caution flew on lap thirteen when Hardy and Troy Williams went around on the back straight. Arnett leads the field back to green with Donaldson second and Mayhair at third. With Arnett out front Greg Burton streaked into third. Caution flew for a spin in turn three. Arnett again brought the field to green with Donaldson second and Burton at third. Caution flew again when two cars got together in four. Arnett led to a green-white-checker run as time run out on the race. Arnett led Donaldson to the checkers with Burton taking third.

John Upshaw led the Stinger field to green with Robert Garrett outside. With the drop of the green it was a three way duel for the lead with Upshaw defending from Dylan Kersey and Garrett. Lap two saw Kersey take the lead with Garrett moving to second, Garrett challenged Kersey at lap three to edge himself to the lead. Kersey battled back and on lap four reclaimed the lead. Upshaw runs at third. Caution waved on lap seven when 4x and 51 got together in turn two. Kersey led Garrett back to green, and had a good restart over the field to hold the lead as Garrett run in second. Harry Beatty moved to third at lap eight but Upshaw regained the position. Caution flew on lap twelve when Joshua Spears came to a stop high on the back straight at the entrance to pit road. Kersely led Garrett and Upshaw to the restart with Jeff Ladue fourth and Russell Estain III at fifth. Back under green it was Kersey still holding onto the lead with Garrett at second and Upshaw still holding third. Kersey took the win over Garrett with Upshaw third.
