Shaw, Fowler, Phillips and Donaldson Score First 2010 Victories At

There were 108 cars on hand for the return to evening race hours at
Southern Raceway, in Milton Florida. Gone was the dry, dusty daytime racing surface, as well as the undefeated titles for several drivers.
A pair of undefeated season winners fell tonight. Dean Shaw took the
Hobby feature win for his first of the season ,removing Kevin
Jernigan from the undefeated roll , while Jason Phillips took the
Late Model win knocking the absent James Ussery from the dominant
title. Ryan Fowler emerged at the top of the Open-Wheel Modifieds
for his first 2010 win. Levi Donaldson scored the Bomber win becoming the fourth winner in as many races. Chris Bayhi continued his domination in the Vintage division, as did David Windham in Street
Stocks. Kody Cook took his second Stinger win.
David Windham and Bo Bailey brought the Street Stock field to start.
With green in the air it was a drag race down the front straight with
Windham seated at the point as the field rumbled past the flag stand
to begin lap two. Bailey runs second with Preston Porter third.
Caution flew on lap four when Josh Livingston went around in turn
two. Windham brought the field back to green with Bailey second,
Porter third, Ryan Fowler fourth and Denny Albee fifth. Under
green again Cory Butler moves to fifth over Albee as Fowler hunts
Porter for third. Out front, it is still Windham leading
Bailey. Caution waved again on lap eight for Porter on the front
straight. Windham still holds the lead with Bailey second. Butler now
runs third with Bradey Reeves fourth and Fowler fifth. Butler spins
from third in turn two as Windham remains out front with Bailey still
second as the race goes back green.
Caution flew on lap eleven when Bailey drops from second to stop in turn four. Windham remains the leader with Livingston up into second over Fowler at thirdr. Reeves holds fourth with Jeffery Odom fifth. Windham continues to lead as the green flag racing resumes. Windham took the win over Livingston by a straight while Fowler hunted for second to the end, crossing at third.

Dean Shaw led the Hobby field to green with Carl Wilkerson outside.
As green flew it was Shaw to the point with Kevin Jernigan second.
Dale Bush pulled to third into three as lap one ended. Caution waved
on lap four when Wilkerson and Albert Beltz got together in two. Shaw
remains at the point with Jernigan second and Bush third. Travis
Fowler runs fourth with Darrell Sprague fifth. Under green once more
it was Shaw still leading the way with Jernigan second and Bush
third. Caution flew on lap eighteen when Beltz got into Jernigan as
he was being lapped, spinning in turn three. Shaw leads back to green
with Jernigan second and Bush still at third. Under green for the
short run to the checkers it was Shaw out front with Jernigan on his
bumper.
Caution flew at lap nineteen when Belts, Bush and Sprague get
together on the front straight. Shaw led to the green, for a single
lap shootout to the checkers, taking out in the lead. Into turn one
Jernigan succumbed to mechanical failure of some sort, slowed and
pitted. Bush moved to second as Shaw took the win. Bush crossed
second with Fowler third.

Cole Griffith brought the Open-Wheel Modifieds to green with Ryan
Fowler on the outside. As green waved it was Fowler rocketing to the
lead over Griffith while Mike Ladner moves to third. Ladner shuffled
Griffith the third on lap three.
Caution flew on lap four when Chris Rutherford went around in three, collecting John Melton. Fowler leads back to the restart with Ladner second and Griffith third. Under green again the front three open a gap back to Billy Copple in fourth. Ladner digs hard, closing he gap to Fowler and looking inside as each lap goes down. Caution waved again on lap nine when JD Rutherford went around in turn four. Again Fowler led back to green with Ladner second and Griffith at third. Without changes up front the race ran to lap eleven when C. Rutherford went around in four.
Fowler brought the field back to green and the battle for the
lead resumed with Fowler holding onto the number one spot. Caution
waved on lap fifteen when JD Rutherford went around in turn four.
Rutherford took the black flag for two unassisted spins. Fowler
returned the field to green, until caution waved when Copple went
around in four. Fowler led back to green but when John Melton dug
hard inside of Griffith until contact sent Melton spinning up in turn
four. Fowler again led Ladner to green with Griffith still holding
third. Fowler led Ladner to the checkers with Griffith third and Melton fourth.

Aaron Buscavage brought the Vintage class to green with Chris Bayhi
on his outside. With green flying it was Bayhi to the lead into one
with Buscavage second. Down the back straight Stuart Wilson pulled to
second over Buscavage while Bill Blum followed into third. Caution
flew on lap seven when Phillip Hamilton pulled high in one and
slowed. Bayhi continues to lead Wilson with Blum third, Buscavage
fourth and DB Culpepper fifth. Lap eleven saw Wilson challenge Bayhi
for the lead on the front straight and in a shower of sparks as Bayhi
scraped the wall, Wilson move to the lead. Bayhi Challenged back,
using a lapped car to secure the lead back from Wilson. Bayhi took
the win over Wilson with Blum third.

Taylor Jarvis led the Late Model’s to green with Jason Phillips
outside on the front row. An ugly start ended with several cars
stacked up and tore up down the front straight and no laps completed.
The second attempt for a start saw Phillips take the lead with Ray
Robbins second and Jarvis third. Caution flew on lap one when Adam
Ellison slowed on the front straight. Phillips brought the field back
to green, holding the lead. Caution flew on lap two when Russell
Welch slowed to a stop in four. Phillips remains at the point for the
restart with Robbins second and Jarvis in third. Roger Pack runs
fourth with Steven Jernigan fifth. Under green again it was Phillips
out front before Pack ran low into the infield and stopped. Phillips
once more showed the way but the start ended with Jernigan sideways
in turn two, collecting Martin Lilland Jr in the process. Phillips
again led to attempt a green flag start, taking the lead. Caution
waved on lap three for Ellison stopped in turn one. Phillips
continued to lead Robbins when the race returned to green flag racing
while Jarvis held third. Phillips led to the checkers with Robbins
second and Jarvis taking third.

Levi Donaldson brought the Bombers to green inside of William Arnett.
Under green Arnett dove to the lead into turn one. Caution flew on
lap one when Chris Carnley turned Josh Benton in turn four. Back
under green Arnett took the lead as Jason Hardy pulled past Donaldson
to second. Lap nine saw caution when Arnett lost a tire along the
back straight as Hardy moved to the point. Donaldson moved up to
second with JR Benton third. James Fox runs fourth with Robbie Brown
fifth. Back under green it was Hardy out front as Randy Pack moved
to fifth. Lap thirteen saw Donaldson challenge outside Hardy for the
lead, taking the position down the back straight before caution flew
for Pack in turn two. Donaldson led Hardy to the yellow with Benton
at third. Lap fifteen saw Hardy lose a tire and drop from second as
Donaldson now led Benton with. Caution flew at lap seventeen when JR
Benton spun in two. Donaldson led Jo. Benton with Brown third. Back
green it was still Donaldson out front until caution flew on lap
nineteen when Pack went around in two. Donaldson again brought then
field to green for a single lap run to the finish. Donaldson took the
win with Benton second and Brown third.

Bob Tarrant led the Stinger’s to their feature green with Harry
Beatty on the outside front row. With the drop of the green flag it
was a four way duel for the lead with Tarrant taking the point over
Beatty with Kody Cook third and John Upshaw dropping into fourth.
Caution flew on lap two for Jose Ojeda coming to a stop on the track.
Tarrant led the the caution as Cook moved to second and Upshaw third.
Under green again it was Tarrant still holding the point over Cook
with Upshaw third. Beatty runs fourth with Russell Estain III at
fifth. Lap six saw Cook move to the lead with Upshaw following suit
to second. Tarrant runs third. Caution flew on lap ten when Scooter
Willis spun Tommy Lowey out of turn four. Willis was blackflagged for
sportsmanship. Cook led Upshaw back to green with Tarrent third. Lap
eleven Tarrant had his hands full with a challenge from Estain but
caution flew on lap twelve when James McGuffin turned Logan Lindsey
around. McGffin was black flagged for sportsmanship. Cook again led
the way to green with Upshaw second, and Tarrant third. Back green
Tarrant got rooted out of third as Beatty moved to the spot. Red
flew on lap sixteen when Charlie Simmons took a roll along the front
straight wall. Simmons was uninjured. Cook holds the lead over Upshaw
with Beatty third, Estain fourth and April Ray fifth. Red flew
again on lap eighteen when Samantha Rast turned into the front
straight wall. Cook continues to lead as the field went under
green. Beatty pulled to second over Upshaw with a single lap
remaining. Cook led to the checkers with Upshaw taking second back to
the flagstand. Beatty claimed third.

Next weekend, April 3rd, Southern Raceway will thunder back into
action with all classes race. On the schedule is the first of six,
$600-to-win, Miller Lite Six Pack Shootout races for the Street Stock
division. Then, on April 10th the first of six, $500-to-win, Bud Lite
Bomber Brawl races will be run along with all regular classes. On
April 17th a full program of weekly point racing with $1000 to win
for the Modifieds, plus the Northwest Florida Modified Compact Trucks
will run their inaugural race for the locally travelling class.
Southern Raceway is a quick, 3/8 mile, dirt oval speedway located on
Nichols Lake Road in Milton, FL, approximately 3 miles south of I-10
off of Highway 87 in Milton. Gates open at 4pm each Saturday with
