NwFL Trucks Looking Forward To Inaugural Race

(CRESTVIEW, FL – Mar 31, 2010) — On April 17th the Northwest Florida Modified Compact Trucks will take to the track for the first time as a stand-alone racing division. All those involved with the trucks are looking forward to this first race! Operated loosely as a “series” the trucks will make their way to Southern Raceway in Milton, Florida for their Inaugural race event.

“There won”t be high numbers of trucks for the first race” Says Bob Smith NwFL Trucks organizer, “mostly because there isn’t a large number of them built. We’re interested in putting on a good show for the fans and having fun, but at the same time we’re gaining some desperately needed exposure.”

“It’s completely understandable that people don’t want to build a racecar on speculation” Smith add’s “They want to see them before they build them.”

Currently it looks like the first race will roll out with around eight trucks. Not a large number, but it is a start. Among the drivers expected to take the green flag for the first truck race are Bob Smith (59), Denny Agrabrite (1), Jeremy Foster (Y2J), James Foster (98), Trey Davies (15), Robby Walters (13) and Logan Nathey (6). There are other trucks in various stages of build, and with some luck a few more will be completed in time for the April 17th debut.

Just as in every segment of society today, the economy has put a strangle hold on many racers, and would—be racers. This fact has shrunk the roster of completed trucks by several. It is hoped that by making it to the track the class will generate more interest and the numbers will increase.

The class is made up of compact pickup trucks running up to a maximum of a 4.3L engine. The rules allow a lot of latitude for those building the trucks. Full bracing, changing engines/transmission between makes and models, locked rearends, replacing factory fuel injection with a spec intake/carburetor, headers, and everyone on G60 tires are among some of the more prominent features. Some of the rules will undoubtedly change as the class grows, which is a natural evolution as lessons are learned.

Sponsors are also being sought for the NwFL Trucks. There are all levels available from a season long title sponsor to per race sponsors. Anyone interested in becoming involved as a sponsor can contact Smith through the Truck’s website at www.panhandleracing.com/ct or via PanhandleRacing at www.panhandleracing.com.

Currently on the schedule are two dirt speedways: Southern Raceway at Milton, FL and Northwest Florida Speedway in Blackman, FL. Other venues are likely to be added through the season.

The full rules and information can be found on the NwFL Modified Compact Truck website located at www.panhandleracing.com/ct. For more information, please visit the website or contact Bob Smith at bob@panhandleracing.com.
